Your driving licence
A driving licence authorises you to drive one or more CLASSES of vehicle, and only those. A category A licence covers a motorcycle, scooter or moped; category B covers a car, jeep or delivery van. Driving a class your licence does not cover is driving without a licence.
The minimum age is sixteen for a motorcycle or scooter and eighteen for a car, jeep or delivery van. Commercial and heavy classes require twenty-one.
If your licence is lost you must report it within seven days.
The licence can be taken away. Repeated violations lead to cancellation - the limit is five - and serious offences can end it outright. Renew before it expires; renewing late is a fine, and driving on an expired licence is an offence.
